Irish Cultural and Heritage Center of Wisconsin

A group of Milwaukee Irish-Americans incorporated as the Irish Cultural and Heritage Center of Wisconsin in 1992. They became a tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization the next year. The goal, long held in Milwaukee, was to build or buy a building that would become home for the many Irish and Celtic groups that meet regularly in this city. Those groups include dance, performing arts, language classes, Shamrock Club charitable and social activities, genealogy research and others. The Celtic "home" was found in 1996, when a local church facility became available. Ownership transferred on December 2, 1996 and a new era of cultural life began in Milwaukee.

Irish Cultural and Heritage Center of Wisconsin

In 1996, the ICHC purchased the Grand Avenue Congregational Church (United Church of Christ) building. Part of the mission of the ICHC is to be a contributing part of the community, and to be a good neighbor to those in the area of the facility.

The ICHC has a fifteen-member board of directors; it meets monthly. Since 1992 the board conducted a series of fund-raisers to obtain money for its search for a permanent home. Now that the Center is a reality, the ICHC board has hired a full-time manager to conduct daily activities, schedule meetings of groups at the Center, and carry on public relations with the community.

The physical plant of the ICHC Center is basically sound, but in need of modernizations such as: new roof, electrical and plumbing updates, air-conditioning, new and larger bathrooms, air-conditioning, offices and meeting rooms, an elevator, and secure, dry storage areas.  The beautiful sanctuary/auditorium, called "The Hallamor"  houses a magnificent 4,000-pipe Kimball organ.
