
Irish novelist Morgan
Llywelyn was awarded the Exceptional
Celtic Woman Award from Celtic Women
International at its second annual
conference held in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin. Her historical novels about
Irish and Celtic culture have sold more
than 40 million copies worldwide and
have been translated into many
languages. Llywelyn is chairman of the
Irish Writers Union in Ireland. The
Irish Arts Council nominated her for
the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1999.
Along with the award, she received a
crystal vase designed by Connemara
Celtic Crystal Company in County
Galway, and a plaque listing all the
honors her books have received.
Since 1978, Morgan Llyweln has
written twenty-six novels and
numerous short stories. In 1998 the
first of five books about the Irish
struggle for independence, called
THE IRISH CENTURY "1916: A
Novel of the Irish Rebellion"
was published, to be followed by
"1921" in 2001,
"1949" in 2003, and most recently,
"1972: A Novel of Ireland's Unfinished Revolution" (2005).
