Morgan Llywelyn ~ Recipient of the Exceptional Celtic Woman Award, 1999

 
Morgan Llywelyn Recipient of the Celtic Woman Award, 1999Irish novelist Morgan Llywelyn has received the Exceptional Celtic Woman Award from Celtic Women International at its annual conference held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her historical novels about Irish and Celtic culture have sold more than 40 million copies worldwide and have been translated into many languages.

Llywelyn is chairman of the Irish Writers Union in Ireland. The Irish Arts Council nominated her for the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1999. Along with the award, she received a crystal vase designed by Connemara Celtic Crystal Company in County Galway, and a plaque listing all the honors her books have received.

Since 1978 she has written twenty-six novels and numerous short stories. In 1998  the first of five books  about the Irish struggle for independence, "1916: A Novel of the Irish Rebellion" was published, to be followed by "1921"  "1942"  "1949",  "1969" and "1999".  This series of books is called THE IRISH CENTURY.

 Other awards that she has received for her books include:

1978 The Wind from Hastings  Doubleday Book Club Selection.
1980 Lion of Ireland New York Times Bestseller.
1982 The Horse Goddess Book of the Month Club
Selection; Best Novel of the Year: National League of Women and The
American Literary Association.
1984 Bard Poetry and Prose Award.
1992 The Last Prince of Ireland Book of the Month Club
Selection, and the History
Book Club Selection.

Morgan Llywelyn is an Honorary Member of Celtic Women International, a group that represents Celtic women world-wide from the seven Celtic Nations.
